Here in the middle of imagination
Right in the middle of my head,
I close my eyes and my room’s not my room,
And my bed isn’t really my bed.
I look inside and discover things,
That are sometimes strange and new,
And the most remarkable thoughts I think,
Have a way of being true.

Here in the middle of imagination
Right in the middle of my mind,
I close my eyes and the night isn’t dark
And the things that I lose, I find.
Time stands still and the night is clear,
And the wind is warm and fair,
And the nicest place is the middle of imagination
When… I’m… there…

Sesame Moments: Monsterpiece Theatre- The Sound of Music

Hi-ho… still on my little hiatus, but I had a few Sesame Moment videos queued up, so I figured I’d share them– rather than keep things dormant. So here we go!

Alastair Cookie introduces the classic musical “The Sound of Music,” starring Grover in Lederhosen, waiting for The Sound of Music. When he hears it, hilarious things happen!

Sesame Moments: Monsterpiece Theatre

Ahhh… the class. The regality. Add Cookie Monster to the mix, and you have hilarity!

Sesame Street did a spot-on take on the classic PBS show “Masterpiece Theatre” with its take-off, “Monsterpiece Theatre” in the 1970s and 1980s. Cookie, as Alastair Cookie, dressed in a smoking jacket (with a pipe in the earlier episode shown below), and introduced such classics as “Upstairs, Downstairs” and “Twelve Angry Men” in only the way Sesame Street could show them. Here are those two clips…

Sesame Moment: Snuffy's Cloud Costume

Can’t think of a good costume for Halloween?  How about a cloud?

Today’s clip starts with the classic “Snuffleupagus” walking music, and then features Snuffy in his cloud costume, talking with “Bird” about clouds. It ends with Snuffy singing a little “Cloud Song” to Big Bird.

As for his costume, I’m thinking maybe Snuffy could have used a little more cotton…

I’ve never been all that good at being the “Type A” outgoing personality that gets all the good stuff in life. In fact, as far back as I can remember, I’ve been a fairly shy person.

You probably wouldn’t know that by reading some of the things I post on this blog. Behind the guise of a website with graphics and colors, I look like any other well-adjusted guy.

But the truth is, I am still that shy boy I remember back in the 1970s.

So many things come to mind– first days at school, swimming lessons, meeting new neighborhood kids… they weren’t easy for me. Other kids would congregate right away and start making friends. I would sit off to the side and wait for someone to talk to me. And I’d do a lot of waiting.

Naturally, once I finally got to know other people, I’d come around and be more myself. However it would take me a long time to come around to that point. I was convinced that nobody liked me. And probably, everyone else was convinced that I just wanted to be alone.

Funny how that works. Everyone believes the wrong thing about each other, so nobody makes any headway to bridge the gap.

The same can be said about my ability to meet guys today. I know full well that it’s not their fault that I’m still single and don’t go on dates. I need to make some sort of effort on my part, too– otherwise I’ll still be that kid standing off to the side, waiting for the other kids to come and talk to me.

I guess what I’m trying to say here is that shyness is something that can be overcome. It takes a lot of effort, but it can happen.

So that’s why when I found this little video clip today, I felt I just had to share it.

I remember seeing this clip when I was a kid. Grover was like me in so many ways. He was cute and shy and sweet– the blue and furry thing was all his– and always wanted to do the right thing. I really identified with him, and still do in some ways today. This clip features Grover with the legendary and inspirational Lena Horne. Lena helps Grover overcome his shyness with the touching song “How Do You Do,” written by Joe Raposo.

The elements in this one clip are as close to perfection as one can get. If it doesn’t give your spirits a lift, I don’t know what will!
