UPDATED: All the songs have been identified– whether they were guessed or not. Thanks for playing!!
I was just browsing through Dantallion’s Can[n]on and caught this lovely meme. As you know, some memes are downright insipid, and some are actually quite fun. This one is definitely one of the fun ones. Here’s how it works:
Step 1: Put your iPod/MP3 player or iTunes on random.
Step 2: Post the first line(s) from the first 20 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song. (Instrumental songs, obviously, do not count)
Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Step 4: Strike out the songs when someone guesses correctly and post the title in bold after the stricken song when it is guessed.
Step 5: (for those guessing the songs) Looking the lyrics up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!!! (which would be bad, obviously).
Song #1: Listen to the ground: There is movement all around. There is something goin down and I can feel it.
Night Fever: Bee Gees (Greg got this one on Friday. Attaway Greg! 🙂
Song #2: Your old man got mad when I told him we were leaving. He cursed and he raged and he swore at the ceiling.
Blues For Baby and Me: Elton John (Nobody got this one– I figured it was too obscure, but hey, there is at least one Elton John song on the list. :-))
Song #3: You came along when I needed a savior. Someone to pull me through somehow.
Somebody Already Broke My Heart: Sade (Todd of Toddspot snuck in at the VERY last minute and got this one. 🙂 — and at this point, Todd, I’m perfectly cool with you cheating. ;))
Song #4: And now I’m all alone again, no where to turn, no one to go to.
Song #5: Kiss me too fiercely; hold me too tight. I need help believing you’re with me tonight.
As Long As You’re Mine: Wicked (Idina Menzel and Norbert Leo Butz) (Ian gets this one all to himself!)
Song #6: Every night in my dreams, I see you, I feel you.
Song #7: I used to visit all the very gay places; those come what may places.
Lush Life: Queen Latifah (You guessed very correctly, dpnash… it’s from Living Out Loud and Her Highness’s fabulous album “The Dana Owens Album”)
Song #8: Knew you’d be here tonight. So I put my best dress on. Boy I was so right.
Slow: Kylie Minogue (Nobody! And here I thought all the fags from all over would guess it right. ;-))
Song #9: Mama said on the day I was born there was a whole lotta shakin goin on.
Bop ‘Til You Drop: The Nylons (Another very obscure one that nobody got!)
Song #10: To dance! No way to make a living, masochisms, pain, perfection, muscle spasm, chiropractors, short careers, eating disorders…
Song #11: Every day there’s something new; Honey, to keep me lovin’ you. And with every passin’ minute; Ah baby, so much joy wrapped up in it.
My Precious Love: Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell (Nobody guessed this one either.)
Song #12: Hey.. do it now.. Yeah, once I was a boogie singer.. playin’ in a rock & roll band.
Play That Funky Music: Wild Cherry (Greg came back again today and guessed this one! 🙂
Song #13: And now, is it too late to say how you made my life so different in your quiet way.
My One True Friend: Bette Midler (I love this song… but nobody got it!)
Song #14: They asked me how I knew, my true love was true. I of course replied, something you hear inside cannot be denied.
Smoke Gets In Your Eyes: Dinah Washington (dpnash and Ian got the song right… But they were also right that there are so many versions out there– it could have been anyone! Such a great song. And you gotta love Miss Dinah. :-))
Song #15: If you need me, call me. no matter where you are, no matter how far– just call my name.
Song #16: One day, you’ll look to see I’ve gone.
I’ll Follow The Sun: The Beatles (Tricked ya with two Beatles tunes! But not on purpose of course… it just happened that way.)
Song #17: If you search for tenderness, it isn’t hard to find. You can have the love you need to live.
Honesty: Billy Joel (I was starting to worry that nobody knew this one… it’s one of my theme songs. 🙂 But Brian (who didn’t leave a link or anything) guessed it correctly.)
Song #18: Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup.
Across The Universe: The Beatles (This one belongs solely to GP… although he mentioned Rufus Wainwright, whose version I also have and like very much!)
Song #19: At last, my love has come along. My lonely days are over. And life is like a song.
Song #20: Suppose I said I am on my best behavior. There are times I lose my worried mind.
Not Myself: John Mayer (Wow! Dan must be some John Mayer fan!)
