This was one of those weekends where you get through with it and you wonder “how the FUCK did I do all that stuff and keep my head on right?”
Yeah no doubt… it was busy, but busy in a FUN way. And that made it all worth it.
I’ve been preparing for my annual Holiday-slash-Birthday celebration for the last week, preparing food, cleaning, buying groceries, cleaning, rearranging furniture, cleaning, fielding phone calls, cleaning… you get the idea. I’m not the type of person that can just throw out a few chips and a jar of salsa and call it a party. I have to have a friggin’ feast for my guests. I’m Italian. It’s in my blood.
In years past I’ve made everything from stuffed shells to lasagna. This year I made chili. My dad always made kickass chili when I was a kid and years ago I learned the recipe– so I prepared two huge pots of chili for the 60+ people who were about to invade my apartment. In addition, I made fudge (first time EVER) and prepared various veggie trays, cheese trays and of course the obvious chips and dips. And when I wasn’t cooking, I was cleaning. And BOY did my place need a cleaning. I really need to throw more than one party a year just for the sake of getting my place in shape.
So the party was a smash. Everyone had a wonderful time, and so did I. And yes, I really did have over 60 people in my apartment. It’s not tiny, but that does tend to get kind of cozy after a while. 😉
By the end of the night I was so exhausted I could barely get out of a chair. My back was KILLING me. And yet I washed every dish and threw out every cup and plate left over. I hate going to bed with a messy apartment. It just ain’t right.
Saturday I did NOTHING all day and LOVED it. I didn’t even turn on the TV. It was so nice to just rest and not have to worry about anything. OK yeah I still have Christmas shopping to do, but I can do that during the week after work. I’m in no great rush. There were a couple more parties Saturday night and they were nice and laid back.
Sunday I had plans to see “Brokeback Mountain” with my friends. We all met for lunch and got tickets for the 2pm show. Friends, it was like a gay bar in that theater. Not a single straight folk to be seen, and hardly a woman for that matter. Definitely unusual, but considering the subject matter, it wasn’t overly surprising. The movie was amazing. Heath Ledger had better be nominated for an Oscar or I will never watch the damn show again. The movie itself was gorgeous and the story was heart-wrenching. Yeah the sex was hot and the romance element was sweet as well, but this movie is NOT just about sex and gay situations… it’s about having to hide something about yourself to the point where you lose sense of who you really are, and the tragedy of telling lies to cover your true feelings. It’s wonderful, and if you get a chance to see it, please do.
After the movie, we headed over to Sidetrack for some drinks (all that depressing stuff made us thirsty– what can I say?) We had a great time laughing and singing with the showtunes– and then I noticed a couple guys that looked very familiar to me. I hadn’t met them before, but I knew their faces. I certainly knew their voices, but it was so loud that I couldn’t really hear them talking. But when I saw the tall one with longer hair wearing a T-shirt that said “Free Yoga Lessons” on it, I knew it had to Patrick and Noah from the PNS Explosion podcast.
Of course I asked them if they were Patrick and Noah and told them who I was (Rocket Man… everyone knows me as Rocket Man, go figure right?) So I ended up hanging outand with them and introduced them to my friends. We had such a great time. They’re totally fun guys and a blast to be around. I figured as much, since I love their podcast so much. If you haven’t heard them yet, check them out… and be ready to laugh your badoobies off.
So it was a fun weekend. And now I have to get back to work, and get some friggin’ shopping done. Ugh. I do this every year, and it never gets easier.
Now I’m going to crawl into bed and warm my ass up. It’s so damn cold here my toes are about to fall off. Winter sucks. Sigh.
